What we will be doing: Erwin Park is amidst change as many areas nearby the park are being developed. To help keep the trails comfortable for walking, we plan to shade the new trail by planting trees. This is thanks to the City of McKinney’s Park and Recreation Department, Development Department and their Tree Restoration funding. Trees are beneficial for wildlife, increase the canopy (reducing heat) and increase privacy of walking trails.

We will be planting trees, this would include labor like digging or filling holes and mulching. There will be about 75 trees to plant, 30 - 45 gallon size trees. Any needed trail work will be a possible volunteer activity as well if there is time after the planting. To view the many ongoing projects at the park, please check out this Google Earth Map of Erwin Park Trail Reroutes & Tree PlantingErwin Tree Render

What to bring: bring a signed waiver, click here to fill out and print. Participants under age 18 need to have a guardian or parent sign the form. You will also need to have your own work gloves, for this activity. Bring bug spray, sunscreen, and water. If you bring your own tools, including trowels or shovels, please have them marked so we know they are yours. Please see our Safety Guidelines for more information.

What do I wear: Long pants, long sleeves, face covering, and closed toed shoes or boots. Sunscreen and bug spray are recommended.  Please dress appropriately for the weather. Please do not wear leggings, shorts, or other thin material which is not protective on your body.

How to sign up: RSVP is available through Volunteer McKinney. RSVP is necessary to attend, please account for all members who plan to attend when signing up. Sign up is limited and necessary to attend this event. Those who do not sign up may not plant a tree, but other work is needed along Erwin Park trails.

Some specific roles are needing volunteer help during this event. These volunteers will arrive earlier than 8, around 7 - 7:30 am. Sign up for these positions is on SignUpGenius. These volunteers will still get to plant trees!

Please arrive about 10 minutes early for a safety orientation, waiver sign in, and team assignments.

Volunteers can earn service hours for their school group, troop, or club. See a member of the McKinney Parks Foundation to have your volunteer forms signed at the event.
